More than simply pestiferous, the presence of mosquitoes increases the population’s risk of contracting infectious diseases. Without Florida Mosquito Control, Florida would literally be unsafe let alone uninhabitable, un-enjoyable, and just a tropical place with lots and lots of pesky bugs.
Thankfully, because of the Florida Mosquito Control District’s continued research and public service through highly effective, environmentally sound control our communities enjoy the high quality of life that Florida boasts:
- Wonderful homes, beautiful parks, beaches, numerous recreational areas and world-class golf courses.
- High real estate values, impeccable tourism and thriving businesses.
- Good public health from increasingly lower rates of infectious diseases such as Dengue Fever, Encephalitis, Malaria, and Dog Heartworm.
There are 80 mosquito species found in the State of Florida. Amongst these 80 species the most common perpetrators are the Salt Marsh Mosquito, Tiger Mosquito and House Mosquito.
Florida Mosquito Districts manage the mosquito population by utilizing three basic methods for mosquito control operations: Source Reduction, Larval Control and Adult Control.
The unique mission of each Florida Mosquito Control District drives them to promote sound mosquito control, increase public interest, awareness and support, and provide a way for their members to advance scientifically through extensive training and education.
We believe in this mission and understand it is critical to the well being and livelihood of our communities.
